Key Results & Progress
Key results are the measurable outcomes attached to an objective — they turn a goal statement into something you can track. In PMSuite, objectives live under Performance, and the metrics available for key results are configured company-wide in Performance Settings, on the Key Results Metrics tab.
Who can use it
Access follows the goal type and the permissions attached to it. Performance Settings defines three goal types — Individual, Department, and Company — and each has its own separate View and Manage permission controls. A role with only View on a goal type can see those objectives and their key results; Manage is required to create or change them. Permissions are assigned in Settings → Roles & Permissions.
Prerequisites
- The Performance module must be enabled for the company in Settings → Module Settings.
- The key result metrics you want to use should already be configured on the Key Results Metrics tab in Performance Settings.
- An objective must exist to attach key results to.
How to Access
| What you want | Where to go |
|---|---|
| Objectives and their key results | Performance → Objective (/account/objectives) |
| Scores rolled up from objectives | Performance → OKR Score (/account/okr-scoring) |
| Metric configuration | Settings → Performance Settings → Key Results Metrics tab |
| Progress conversations | Performance → 1:1 Meetings (/account/meetings) |
Steps
- Configure your metrics first. Open Settings → Performance Settings → Key Results Metrics. This tab defines the metrics that key results can be measured against, so setting it up before rolling out OKRs saves rework.
- Set the goal-type permissions. Still in Performance Settings, confirm which roles hold View and Manage on Individual, Department, and Company goals, so the right people can create and update key results.
- Open Objectives. Go to Performance → Objective (
/account/objectives) and open the objective you want to work on. - Add or update the key results on that objective, using the metrics configured in step 1.
- Check the rollup. Open Performance → OKR Score (
/account/okr-scoring) to see how the objective scores once its key results are recorded.
Effect on other features
- OKR Score (
/account/okr-scoring) reads from objectives, so key result updates are what move the score. - 1:1 Meetings (
/account/meetings) are the built-in place to discuss progress and blockers on objectives. - Notification Settings for performance are a separate tab inside Performance Settings — that tab, not the global notification settings, controls performance-related alerts.
- If the Performance module is switched off in Module Settings, objectives and key results are hidden from the sidebar for everyone in the company.
Limitations
- Metric options are company-wide, not per-objective. An individual objective owner cannot invent a one-off metric; it has to exist on the Key Results Metrics tab. Workaround: ask a Company Admin to add the metric in Performance Settings once — it then becomes available to every objective.
- Visibility is tied to goal type, not to individual objectives. There is no per-objective sharing toggle. Workaround: choose the goal type (Individual / Department / Company) that matches the audience you want, and grant View on that type to the roles that need it.
- Key results are not automatically fed by other modules. Values are maintained inside Performance. Workaround: pair each objective with a recurring 1:1 Meeting so the numbers get refreshed on a predictable cadence, and use the relevant module report (for example Task Report or Finance Report) as the source you read the number from.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Performance / Objective missing from the sidebar | The Performance module is disabled in Settings → Module Settings. |
| A user can see objectives but cannot add or edit key results | They have View but not Manage on that goal type in Performance Settings. |
| A user cannot see department- or company-level objectives | View permission is granted per goal type — Individual access does not imply Department or Company access. |
| The metric you want is not offered | It has not been added on the Key Results Metrics tab in Performance Settings. |
| No performance notifications arriving | Check the Notification Settings tab inside Performance Settings. |
