Project Roadmap

Purpose: The Project Roadmap is a portfolio-level view that shows all of your projects at once, each with its progress bar, current status, and deadline in a single screen. Instead of opening projects one by one to check where each one stands, you get a consolidated picture of what is on track, what is close to its deadline, and what has stalled. It is the fastest way to answer "how is everything doing right now?" before a status meeting or a client update.

Who can use it: Anyone whose role has permission to view the Projects module and its reports — typically Company Admins and project managers. Members without project-view permission will not see the menu entry.

Prerequisites

  • At least one project must exist — see Creating Projects. The Roadmap reads existing project records; it does not create anything of its own.
  • Projects should have a status set (for example In Progress, On Hold, Finished) so the status column is meaningful.
  • Projects should have start and deadline dates filled in, otherwise the deadline column is empty for those projects.
  • Project progress should be maintained — either through the project's own progress setting or through completed Tasks — so the progress bars reflect reality.

How to Access

Navigate to Sidebar → Projects → Reports → Project Roadmap, or go directly to /account/projectroadmap.

What the Roadmap Shows

ElementWhat it tells you
ProjectThe project name, so you can identify each row and open the full project record.
Progress barHow far the project has advanced, shown visually for every project side by side.
StatusThe project's current status, so you can separate active work from paused or completed work at a glance.
DeadlineThe project's end date, so you can see which projects are approaching or past their delivery date.

Because all projects appear together, the value of the Roadmap is comparison: a short progress bar next to a near deadline is your risk signal.

Suggested Workflow

  1. Open the Roadmap at the start of your review cycle (weekly or before a client call).
  2. Scan for projects where progress is low relative to how close the deadline is.
  3. Open those projects from the Projects list to inspect their tasks and milestones — see Project Overview and Milestones.
  4. Update task statuses or the project's own status so the next Roadmap read is accurate.

Effect on Other Features

  • Read-only view. The Roadmap reports on project data; it does not change project records, tasks, milestones, or deadlines. Editing still happens in the project itself.
  • Depends on project hygiene. Anything that changes a project's status, deadline, or progress — task completion, milestone updates, editing the project — is reflected the next time you load the Roadmap.
  • Complements the task reports. The Roadmap answers "which project is behind"; Task Report and Consolidated Task Report answer "which tasks and which people are causing it".
  • Archived projects. Projects you archive are removed from your active project workflows — see Archiving Projects — so keep archiving current if you want the Roadmap to show only live work.

Limitations

  • Portfolio summary, not a task-level plan. The Roadmap shows project-level progress, status and deadlines — it is not a task-by-task schedule. Workaround: use the project's Gantt Chart for task scheduling and dependencies, and the Burndown Chart for delivery pace within a project.
  • Projects without dates or status look empty. A project with no deadline or no status contributes little to the view. Workaround: edit the project and fill in status, start date and deadline; the row becomes useful immediately.
  • Progress is only as good as your updates. If tasks are finished in real life but not marked complete in PMSuite, the bar understates reality. Workaround: have assignees mark tasks complete (or set the project's progress manually) before your review cycle.
  • It is a view, not an export-first report. Workaround: for data you need to circulate outside PMSuite, use the task and time-log reports, which are built for filtering and detailed breakdowns.

Troubleshooting

I can't see Project Roadmap in the menu. Your role likely lacks permission to the Projects module or its reports. Ask a Company Admin to grant the Projects/report permission to your role, then reload.

The page loads but shows no projects. Either no projects exist yet for your company, or every project has been archived. Create a project, or restore/unarchive the ones you expect to see.

A project's progress bar shows 0% even though work is done. Progress is derived from your project data, not from effort spent. Confirm the project's tasks are marked complete (or that the project's own progress value has been updated), then reload the page.

A deadline column is blank. That project has no end date set. Open the project, add the deadline, and it will appear on the Roadmap.

The numbers disagree with a task report. The Roadmap is project-level and unfiltered by date, while task reports are filtered by date range and status. Compare like with like before assuming an error.
